How many years should my meter be in service before it becomes obsolete or decommissioned by the DisCo?

Please note that before meters are installed, they go through testing and certification by authorised labs to ensure they are suitable for use.

However, the meter as a piece of electrical equipment may become faulty due to several reasons which is why your distribution company may decide to test the meter from time to time and replace if faulty according to the procedures approved by NERC.

1. Physical damage: The meter is hit,dropped or exposed to force

2. Environmental factors: Extreme temperatures or moisure
